The Labour Party, to put it bluntly, is on its arse. New Labour was good and we have achieved so much whilst in Government since 1997, but we need to move on.
We need reinvigorating. We need to forget about whether it’s Blairite or Brownite, whether someone is on the right or the left; that’s New Labour talk in a post- New Labour world. If really pushed, I would say my place on the political spectrum would be Inside Left.
The Labour Party doesn’t need to excuse itself with a different name anymore. The Labour Party is not a tarnished brand, people just need reminding of what our values are and we need to communicate them better – not by changing our name but by changing the way we talk. That is all part of the Nuevo Labour ethos.
